What Metal were Spartan Helmets made Of?
If you’ve done any searching of spartan helmets online you’ll quickly notice that there are many varieties of them in the stores. Though sometimes this is due to the fact that they are slightly different designs or some have a plume and others don’t, much of it has to do with the material of the helmet.
You’ll see them made with steel (iron), brass, and copper (which is to mimick the bronze they actually used in ancient Greece). A spartan helmet made with any of these metals will be fairly accurate, but you should know that the most popular metal used by Sparta was bronze. Since that is rarely used anymore, we’ve replaced it with copper, steel, or brass. I recommend you get a steel helmet (which looks very nice with the rest of the armor) or the copper one.
