The 80′s custom power suit
The 1980’s was the decade that saw the rise of big business, and for the corporate executives nothing symbolized success like his closet full of custom suits. During this time was when the term power suit was coined. The power suit was the dark navy suit, usually double breasted, worn in conjunction with a strong red or gold tie. It would have strong shoulders that were almost imposing and lapels that were wider than the standard.This was the proper uniform for big time CEO’s and stock traders alike, and symbolized all the excess that the 80’s was all about. Most of them would have closets full of almost identical suits. Today the style is making a comeback as more and more people are trying to emulate the look of success that we shied away from in the 90’s.
