A panic bar is defined as a mechanism for unlatching a door, consisting of a metal bar fixed horizontally to the front of the door and hinged.  Crash bar is the alternate term for panic bar.  It is operated by pushing on it, unlatching and opening the door at the same time.  Fire codes require them on all fire and emergency exits.  They are so named because they can be operated by someone "crashing" into them.But why do we need panic bar at office buildings and homes?  One word: safety.  Bad things and accidents are realities in life.Panic bar door hardware covers a wide array of choices and can be confusing to determine which type is best for your application.
